Mean Fibre Diameter
Laserscan (IWTO 12)

Laser technology has many uses in industrial and scientific fields and is now also applied to the measurement of the fibre diameter of wool. The Australian Research Organisation, CSIRO, developed its sophisticated LASERSCAN equipment specifically for producing accurate and precise measurements of mean fiber diameter and diameter distribution, with minimal sample preparation. This equipment has fast become the standard method of analysis in many countries as it eliminates the slight bias which can occasionally be seen from the more traditional measurement techniques.
